The summer project

During the summer vacation, I went back to my home country and tried to approach different forms of art. I spent a lot of time doing observation drawings, creative drawings and attending pottery classes.

After I went back to the UK, I started to do more drawings and tried monoprint and collage.

Below are summaries of some attempts, and at the bottom is all sketchbooks' videos that I did during the summer break.

Everyday Drawing

During the vacation, Taiwan was under another lockdown, which made me hard to go out for drawing. I began to take a lot of photos when my family drove out for chores and record them down on my sketchbooks. I also did some drawings in Cambridge. I went to garden frequently and developed more about composition and shape of the scenery.

Pottery art

In the period of lockdown, I entered pottery class to learn how to make cups and vases. The tutor also encouraged me to put my drawings on the pottery. It is a precious experience to paint on different material. I focused on designing each artwork and am satisfied about the result.

digital drawings

I tried digital collage for the first time in summer vacation, also I tried to do a series of digital drawings to make me familiar of all brushes and textures in Procreate.

Digital drawings made me think more about the construction of each drawing, and collage really expands my mind and lets me think about more possibilities of illustration.

little book: Another Day

I got the inspiration by a phone call with my younger sister. She is a nurse and working during the pandemic. I want to draw this little book to let people aware about how tired and overworked they are.

It was hard to make this book since it was hard to bend, and I tried repeatedly

The entire process was also very new to me since I hadn't tried this kind of thing before.

Collage and composition

Despite of the lockdown, I got many inspirations and surprises in the summer break. That motivated me to do more creative drawings and collages.

I got some suggestions from peers that my drawings sometimes were a little crowded and messy, that pushed me to think more about composition and color.

some rough ideas

There are some rough ideas I have for my master projects. I want to develop different techniques and tried to think a story that suitable for children.

After I went back to Cambridge, I made myself to work in the print room. Hopefully my next project can be done in monoprint and I plan to try different printmaking skills in the future.
